Most mothers are instinctive philosophers. Harriet Beecher Stowe
I would like to wish each and every mother a Happy Mother’s Day. I applaud and congratulate mothers on the fine job that they are doing. To despite the odds or circumstances, many mothers are going above and beyond the call of duty in raising their children. The bible says in Psalms 127:3 “Children are heritages of the Lord”. Sometimes society tries to downplay the roles of mothers but there is not a greater job on this planet than being a mother.
I am also a mother to two wonderful children. Being a mother has been one of the most rewarding experiences that I have ever had. I am blessed knowing that I am raising a potential leader or a business person. I am also pleased to know that I have a generation that will succeed me and carry on my legacy. With these things being said, I do have a few things that I would like to say to mothers that I think would help us to become even better.
In a previous posting, I talked about us watching our words. In that posting, I talked about how negative words can hurt our children. When we say negative words to our children we are wounding their spirits and hurting their self esteem. The bible says in Colossians 4:6 MSG, “Be gracious in your speech. The goal is to bring out the best in others in a conversation not put them down, not cut them out. I believe many young people are in trouble today because of the negative words that were spoke over them. I also recall hearing an interview with poet Maya Angelou a few days ago and she said some parents speak to their children like they hate them. My question is how can you speak negative to someone that you created or someone who has your DNA ? This really says to me that parents who speak negatively to their children must not like themselves.
Secondly, we must let our children know each and every day that God loves them and he has a purpose and plan for them. Also, we should always tell our kids that we love them. We should go out of our way to make them feel special.
Third, recognize your children’s gifts . Many children’s gifts go unrecognized because many children are not athletic or musically inclined. But they have other gifts such as writing, speaking, administration , teaching and mechanical gifts. It is our job as parents and mothers to recognize our children’s gifts and help them to develop them so they can fulfill the destiny that God has for them.
Please watch what you do. Children do more of what they see you do than what you tell them to do. Children watch our actions very carefully. Do all you can to live as God would have you to live.
Pray over you children daily. Pray for their protection and safety. Pray for God to do his will in their lives. Pray for them to marry Godly men and women. Pray over your children without ceasing.
Finally, never give up on your children. Even if the situation looks hopeless ,never give up. God didn’t give up on you. Keep praying. The bible says train your children in the way they should go and when they are old they won’t depart from it. They may stray for a while but after much prayer your children will return to the truth of God’s word.
