A word to Mothers

Most mothers are instinctive philosophers. Harriet Beecher Stowe

I would like to wish each and every mother a Happy Mother’s Day. I applaud and congratulate mothers on the fine job that they are doing. To despite the odds or circumstances, many mothers are going above and beyond the call of duty in raising their children. The bible says in Psalms 127:3 “Children are heritages of the Lord”. Sometimes society tries to downplay the roles of mothers but there is not a greater job on this planet  than being a mother.

I am also a mother to two wonderful children. Being a mother has been one of the most rewarding experiences that I have ever had. I am blessed knowing that I am raising a potential leader or a business person. I am also pleased to know that I have a generation that will  succeed me and carry on my legacy. With these things being said, I do have a few things that I would like to say to mothers that I think would help us to become even better.

In a previous posting, I talked about us watching our words. In that posting, I talked about how negative words can hurt our children. When we say negative words to our children we are wounding their spirits and hurting their self esteem. The bible says in Colossians 4:6 MSG, “Be gracious in your speech. The goal is to bring out the best in others in a conversation not put them down, not cut them out. I believe many young people are in trouble today because of the negative words that were spoke over them. I also recall hearing an interview with poet Maya Angelou a few days ago and she said some parents speak to their children like they hate them. My question is how can you speak negative to someone that you created or someone who has your DNA ? This really says to me that parents who speak negatively to their children must not like themselves.

Secondly, we must let our children know each and every day that God loves them and he has a purpose and plan for them. Also, we should always tell our kids that we love them. We should go out of our way to make them feel special.

Third, recognize your children’s gifts . Many children’s gifts go unrecognized because many children are not athletic or musically inclined. But they have other gifts such as writing, speaking, administration , teaching and mechanical gifts. It is our job as parents and mothers to recognize our children’s gifts and help them to develop them so they can fulfill the destiny that God has for them.

Please watch what you do. Children do more of what they see you do than what you tell them to do. Children watch our actions very carefully. Do all you can to live as God would have you to live.

Pray over you children daily. Pray for their protection and safety. Pray for God to do his will in their lives. Pray for them to marry Godly men and women. Pray over your children without ceasing.

Finally, never give up on your children. Even if the situation looks hopeless ,never give up. God didn’t give up on you. Keep praying. The bible says train your children in the way they should go and when they are old they won’t depart from it. They may stray for a while but after much prayer your children will return to the truth of God’s word.

God is turning your mess into your message

Except a living man there is nothing more wonderful than a book! A message to us from human souls we never saw, and yet these arouse us, terrify us, teach us, comfort us,open their hearts to us as brothers.  Charles Kingsley

Many of us have made lots of mistakes in our lives. Many times we feel condemned. We feel like we have really made a mess of our lives. But I want you to know that they very things you were in bondage to is what God wants  to use to bless the lives of others. We need to start sharing our testimonies with others so others can believe that  God can bless them like he has blessed each and every one of us. The bible says we have overcome by the blood of the lamb and the words of our testimony (Revelation 12:11).

People need to hear where God has brought us from. Our testimonies will increase someone Else’s faith. People will know if God blessed you He can bless them. People need to know that as believers we have all sinned and fell short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). People need to know that we are imperfect people that have been chosen by God to serve him.

When I read the stories about the men and women that I admire, I do not want to just hear about their successes but I want to hear about the obstacles that they had to overcome. I want to hear about their struggles and how they overcame them. Many people do not feel that they will ever be successful because they have had many struggles. Our stories about our messes will let people know that they can be successful to despite shortcomings.

I challenge you today to share your testimony and tell people of God’s goodness in your life.

HAVING FAITH FOR UNLIMITED SUCCESS

Talk what we will of faith, if we do not trust and rely upon him, we do not believe in him. Antony Farindon

In order to achieve unlimited success, you will have to have great faith. You may ask me what is faith? Hebrews 11:1-3 defines it best by saying, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for the evidence of things not seen. By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God.” Faith calls those things that are not as though they are. Even when circumstances do not appear to be in our favor, faith believes that circumstances will be in our favor. When circumstance look impossible, faith believes that circumstances are possible. As men and women of God, we are called to live a live of faith. 2 Corinthians 5:7 says, “For we walk by faith and not by sight.” Many of us want to achieve things that may look impossible to achieve right now. But I am here to tell you that with God nothing is impossible (Luke 1:37).

As I stated in my last post, Romans 4 (please read) talked about how Abraham believed God for a son even though his situation looked impossible. Abraham and Sarah were considered way past childbearing age. Even though the bible makes no mention about Abraham’s friends or associates, I wondered what they would have said to him or thought about Abraham if he told  them that he would have a child at 100 years of age. They may have said “You are too old”, “You are crazy” or “That’s impossible”. Which brings me to this point, many people will think you are crazy when you tell them about your dreams and what you are believing God for. They are going to say all kinds of things to make you believe that your dreams are impossible. You may have to eliminate some people from your life so you can move forward. You do not need people who are trying to make you doubt what God has said to you. Look for people who have great faith and surround yourself with them.

What I love about Romans 4 is that Abraham believed in God’s promise even when it did not look possible. He did not believe in what he saw he could not do but on what God said he would do. This means that we will have to trust, rely and depend on God to achieve the things that we are hoping to achieve. Abraham trusted God with all his heart. We also need to trust God with all of our heart and mind.

I challenge you this week to believe that God can do what seems to be impossible. For example, you may want to start your own business. Take a few steps of faith by doing things like writing a business plan, reading a few books, making some phone calls, etc. James 2:26 says “Faith without works is dead.”

Hold on to your dreams

Do all you can to make your dreams come true. Joel Osteen

Many people today are aggravated, frustrated or miserable today. One of the reasons behind this is because of unfilled dreams. In order to fully understand what I am saying, let’s go back to your childhood. What were your dreams as a child? What did you imagine or dream that you would become? How did you imagine you would live? Many of you probably wanted to be doctors, lawyers, singers, dancers, actors, musicians, etc. Many of you probably thought you could become a millionaire and live a lavish lifestyle. What happened from your childhood to your adulthood that caused you to abandon your dreams? You probably had negative people around you who told you that achieving your dreams would  be impossible. You may have had hardships in your life. Also, life events such as illness, financial. family or relationship problems could have stopped you from going after your dream? Someone may have told you that you are not capable of achieving your dream. Someone else may have said you are not worthy. I am here to tell you what really happened to you is the enemy came to steal your dream. In John 10:10 Jesus says, “the enemy comes to steal, kill and destroy. I have come that you may have life and have it more abundantly.”

I want to tell you today pick up your dreams again. I know you may say, “I’m too old”, “It’s too late”, “I missed my opportunity”. Lay the excuses aside. Let me tell you about a man who fulfilled his dreams to despite the odds his name was Abraham. God told Abraham he would bless him with a son. Even though Abraham was 100 years old and his wife Sarah was 90 years old when their child was conceived,Abraham never wavered in his faith and God brought his vision to pass.  You are never too old and it’s never too late to fulfill your dreams.

In order to achieve your dreams it is going to take:

1. Unwavering faith- In Romans 4:17-18 (MSG) We call Abraham “father” not because he got God’s attention by living like a saint, but because God made something out of Abraham when he was a nobody. Abraham was first named “father” and then became a father because he dared to trust God to do what only God could do, raise the dead to life with a word make something out of nothing. When everything was hopeless. Abraham believed anyway deciding to live not on the basis of what he saw he couldn’t do but on what God said he would do.

2. Diligence and hard work- Ecclesiastes 5:3 says, for a dream comes through much activity or (business). Many people are waiting on God but God is waiting on us to do something. James 2:26 says “faith without works is dead”.

3. Being around other dreamers- You may need to hire a coach or find a good mentor to help you fulfill your dreams. You want to be around other people who are going where you want to go. Proverbs 24:6 says, ” For by wise counsel you will wage your own war and in a multitude of counsel there is safety:.

In conclusion, you have what it takes to make your dreams a reality. Stop believing the lies of the enemy. The bible says “though the vision may tarry it shall come to pass (Habakkuk 2:2).

Success secret 10: Make quality decisions

As we trust God to give us wisdom for today’s decisions, He will lead us a step at a time into what He wants us to be doing in the future.  Theodore Epp

Some people are not successful because they have not chose to be successful. What I mean is they have not made a decision to do what is takes to be successful. For example, many people say that they want to lose weight but they have not made a decision to do what it takes to lose weight (i.e. exercising, eating right).

The first step to success is you have to decide to be successful. Many times, people are waiting on God to move . But the truth is God is waiting for you to do some things or make a commitment or a decision. The bible says in the book of James that faith without works is dead.(James 2:20).

Also, many people need to make a decision to make Jesus their Lord and Savior. I guarantee you that your life will change just by making that one decision alone. See my post on December 30, 2012 for more information.

In Genesis 28:20-22, Jacob made a vow(promise, decision) by saying “If God will be with me and keep me in this way that I am going and five me bread to eat and clothing to put on, so that I come back to my father’s house in peace, then the Lord shall be my God. And this stone which I have set as a pillar shall be God’s house and of all that you give me I will give a tenth (10% of my income) to you.” As soon as he made a decision to tithe he met his future wife Rachel (Genesis 39). This goes to show you that make wise and quality decisions will prosper and bless you.

For many years, I struggled financially. I prayed and prayed for God to help me. Then one day God said to me., you need to make a decision to change. Then God showed me three things or decisions that I needed to make. First, I needed to make a decision to tithe 10% of my income. Second, I needed to surround myself with people who have achieved financial excellence and seek them for advice. Third, I needed to start my own business and learn how to make financial investments to achieve financial independence. After, I made these decisions my income began to change.

In Deuteronomy 30:19, Moses told the children of Israel to choose life or choose death. In conclusion, I am asking you today what are you going to choose? Life or death? To be blessed or cursed? Poverty or prosperity? Health or sickness? The choice is yours.

If you have been blessed today feel free to leave a comment. Also, if you have any ideas or topics that you want to see implemented let me know.

Your identity in Christ

The major strategy of Satan is to distort the character of God and the truth of who we are. He can’t change God and he can’t do anything to change our identity and position in Christ. If, however, he can get us to believe a lie, we will live as though our identity in Christ isn’t true. Neil T. Anderson.

Many people are having an identity crisis. There are people who have told us what we can’t do or can’t have. Also, people may have have tried to put you in box, label you and tried to make you conform to their standards and not God’s standards. Also, many of us have settled for less than God’s best for us because of some of the things we have been told by people. As a result, many people are not doing God’s will because we do not know who we are in Christ.

The message that I have for you today is to be who God has called you to be and don’t let people try to make you conform to less than God’s best for you. In other words, know who you are in Christ .

The bible says in Jeremiah 29:11, For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope”. This is one of my favorite verses in the bible. God did not call us to live a life of defeat, poverty, sin, sickness and disease. God did not call you to live a life of mediocrity. God has a great and awesome plan for you.

Jeremiah 1:5 says, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations. Isn’t that amazing! God knew you before you were born. God has called many us to be prophets, teachers, leaders, pastors, business people, doctors, lawyers, singers, etc even before we were born. God has given each of us unique gifts before we were born. God has intended for out gifts to be used for his glory and purpose. Each of us are unique. God knows every piece of hair on our heads (Matthew 10:30). Everyone has a different footprint and fingerprint. You can’t be like anyone else nor can anyone be like you. It makes me cringe when I hear people say you should be like this person or that person. Don’t they know that it will never happen. You will never be anyone else but what God has created you to be. Accept who you are.

Also, stop trying to conform to other people’s opinion of you. Be a non-conformist. Jesus was the perfect example of a non-conformist. Jesus refused to conform to the rules and regulations of the Pharisees. Jesus knew who he was and he knew why God had placed him on this earth. Because Jesus knew who he was he was not intimidated by the rules and regulations of the Pharisees.  Jesus walked in authority and power because he was the son of God. He healed people on the Sabbath. He walked on water. He talked to sinners. All of these things intimidated the Pharisees.

In conclusion,I challenge you today to know your identity in Christ. Listed below are some of the things that will help you know your identity in Christ.

1. Know how God sees you.- God does not hate you nor are you a filthy rag in his sight.  God loves you. God sees you through the eyes of Christ.

2. Ask God what is his will and purpose for you?

3. Don’t try to conform to the opinions of others. Be yourself. Learn to like yourself and to be comfortable with who you are.

4. Don’t let persecution bother you. Because Jesus would not conform to the Pharisees religious rules, he was persecuted. Some people are not going to like the fact that you refuse to conform or be placed in a box. Like I said before, outlive your critics and haters.

Declaring our freedom

Freedom is never voluntarily given by the oppressor it must be demanded by the oppressed. Martin Luther King Jr.

In commemoration of Dr. King and those who fought for civil rights, I commend them and thank them for what they did on behalf of this country. Several years ago, I recall watching a Christian talk show that featured Bernice King and several other civil right leaders. She said that the civil rights movement was also a spiritual movement. She also said her father was called to be a prophet to this nation. I admire the perseverance that the civil rights leaders had to despite the fact the where beaten, jailed and cursed at.

There is one point that I want to mention about Dr. King. In his letter from the Birmingham jail he said “Frankly, I have yet to engage in a direct action campaign that was “well timed” in the view of those who have not suffered unduly from the disease of segregation. For years now I have heard the word “Wait!” It rings in the ear of every negro with piercing familiarity. This wait has almost always meant never. We must come to see with one of our distinguished jurist, that justice too long delayed is justice denied. We have waited more than 340 years for our constitutional and God given rights.”

That brings me to this question. How long have we been putting up with sin, sickness, disease, poverty, oppression and depression in our lives? Have we been saying we will wait before we do anything about our situation? How much longer are you going to wait to change your situation? Many of us have been tolerating things that have been oppressing us for too long. Jesus died on the cross over 2000 years ago to free us from sin, sickness, disease, poverty, oppression and depression. Whom the son set free is free indeed (John8:36). It won’t be easy to stand up and take your freedom . But the bible says,”Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand in the evil day and having done all to stand (Ephesians 6:13).

We need to fight like the civil right leaders did when they decided that they had enough of being discriminated against. They marched, they sang and they told the enemy that they are not going to be oppressed anymore. We need to declare our freedom just like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. did by saying, “Free at last, free at last, thank God almighty we are free at last”.

Success secret 9 Watch your words

You are where you are today because of the words you spoke. Kenneth Hagin

Many people are destroying their lives because of the words they are speaking. People are talking about how bad the economy is, how sick they are or how broke they are. The bible says “Death and life is in the power of the tongue.” Many people are speaking death over themselves and their situations instead of speaking life which is God’s word.

The first step in overcoming issues in life is to start speaking life or God’s word over your situation. If you are sick , stop saying you are sick and start declaring”By Jesus stripes, I am healed.” If your are in financial lack start saying “My God supplies all of my needs according to his riches and glory”.

Jesus said we are to speak to the mountains and they shall be removed(Mark 11:23). Your situation may not change overnight but I can guarantee over time it will change.

As parents we have a great responsibility of raising our children and propelling them into their destinies. But I hear parents speaking or saying negative things to their children. I have heard things such as “He won’t amount to much” or “She is worthless”. Because children have heard negative words spoken over them, they have low self esteem or even worse they end up not fulfilling their destinies. Start speaking live over your children even when they misbehave and they will become what God wants to be.

Negative words are causing relationships to end. Some husbands or wives always have something negative to say about their spouses. Someone once said if you don’t have anything good to say, don’t say it. If you can’t say anything good to or about your spouse then evaluate why you are with them. Look for the good qualities in your husband or wife.

That brings me to this point. Stop trying to find fault with others  all the time. Like I said before if you don’t have anything good to say don’t say it.

The final point I want to make is about the children of Israel. I am referring to or talking about when God delivered them from Egypt. The main thing that kept them(the first generation to leave from Egypt) from reaching the promised land was the words they spoke. As I said in another post, they murmured and complained about everything. They also said we can’t conquer the land because they are giants in the land. Also, In Numbers 21:5-7, The children of Israel said “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness?” As a result, the 1st generation of Israelites did not go to the promised land because of the words they spoke.

In conclusion, I challenge you to take a look at your life. What are the areas that you having challenges in? Then ask yourself, “What have I said about my situation?” If you have been saying negative things repent and ask God to forgive you.

6 Ways to be a success in business

In the current economy, many business have been hit hard or failed. But I believe if we grab hold of the principles that I talk about below that you can still prosper in hard economic times.

1. Avoid get rich quick schemes- Proverbs 28:20 warns us about get rich quick schemes. The verse says, “a man with an evil eye hastens after riches and does not consider that poverty will come upon him.” We have all seen that late night infomercials promising that you can make lots of money with little to no effort and promises of overnight success. If something sounds too good to be true it probably is. It takes hard work and effort to be a success.

2. Do what you say- In Matthew 5:33-37, Jesus warned about making promises and oaths and not fulfilling them. He said,”Let your nay (no) be nay(no) and your yeah(yes) be yeah (yes). If you promises someone that you are going to do something do it. Sometimes you cannot always do what you promise due to unforeseen circumstances, but you should at least let the person know that you can’t do what you promised and make restitution at a later time.

3.Pay your workers well- In Luke 10:7 , Jesus said the laborers are worthy of their hire. Withholding wages from someone who has worked hard limits their ability to take care of themselves and their families.

4. Learn to give- As God blesses and increases your finances, you have a responsibility to give back to your families and communities. Our communities not only need your money but they need your time as well. Always find time to mentor or volunteer. Acts 20:35 says, “You must support the weak and it is more blessed to give than to receive.”

5. Put God first in everything- Before you make a major decision ask God what decision you should make or ask for his help . Also pray for God to bless your business each day. Luke 12:31 says, “But seek the kingdom of God and all these things (provisions, possessions) will be added to you.”

6. Treat people like you want to be treated- This is the golden rule that we learned as children. be courteous to everyone and treat every customer well. People are more willing to do business with you when they like your, than when they don’t.

I believe that these principles will help your business prosper. God desires to bless people in business but we must do it his way.

Thank you for reading this post today. If this post has been a blessing to you please feel free to give suggestions or comment. Stay tuned next time.
